The Maya Riviera

The Riviera Maya located in the Mexican Caribbean in the State of Quintana Roo.

It is an area blessed with natural, cultural and tourist wealth that has achieved great national and international popularity, making it the most important tourist destination in Mexico and a high level of quality of life, making it an optimal place for investment given its popularity and demand.

Geographically it extends for an approximate length of 140 km throughout the Beaches area, starting in Cancun, Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen, Puerto Aventuras, Tulum and ending in Punta Allen.

The soil of the Yucatan Peninsula is mainly composed of porous limestone rocks and a few centimeters of soil.

Thus allowing the filtration of rainwater which has been eroding the stone and giving rise to an infinity of underground channels and cavities called caves when they are dry and cenotes if they are flooded by the water that runs through the subsoil of the peninsula.

This coastal strip was originally populated by the great Mayan Civilization that developed mainly in the territories of the Yucatan Peninsula and Chiapas in Mexico, Guatemala and Honduras.

Even today you can see multiple archaeological sites within which we can highlight the following throughout the Riviera Maya: El Rey, Chacchoben, Oxtankah, Dzibanché, Chakanbakan, Kohunlich, Ichkabal, Xcalacoco, Xaman Ha, Cobá, and Tulum.

The reefs of the Riviera Maya

They are part of the Mesoamerican reef that extends for approximately 1,000 km along the Caribbean Coast of Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, and Honduras; Starting in the North Point of the State of Quintana Roo on Contoy Island, it travels the Riviera Maya where the most recognized place for diving is the Island of Cozumel and continues south along the coast of Belize, with its keys and atolls, passes through Guatemala, and ends in the Cayos Cochinos through the Bay Islands in Honduras.

The Mesoamerican Reef System is the largest coral reef in the Western Hemisphere and the second largest reef in the world after the Great Barrier Reef in Australia.

The reefs of the Riviera Maya are one of the most visited places for recreational diving by tourists from around the world.

The list of diving and snorkeling sites is very wide and for the more adventurous there are also experiences of swimming with whale sharks in Isla Holbox, snorkeling with sailfish in Isla Mujeres, and diving with bull sharks in Playa del Carmen.

Some of the most visited places to practice reef diving are: Isla Holbox, Isla Contoy, Isla Mujeres, Cancun, Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen, Akumal, Isla de Cozumel, Tulum, Banco Chinchorro and Xcalak.

Due to the breadth of the sea along the coasts in the Riviera Maya, a wide variety of water sports can be practiced, the most popular being: reef snorkeling, cenote snorkeling, whale shark snorkeling, sailfish snorkeling, diving in reef, cenote diving, shark diving, windsurfing, kitesurfing, catamaran rides, boat rides, glass bottom boat rides, yachting and flyboarding.

During all seasons of the year in the Riviera Maya there is also a variety of Parks for family entertainment.
